Technical terrain

Technical terrain is off-road ground with rocks, roots, steps or tight turns that demands precise control, balance and line choice.

Technical terrain describes off-road sections where speed matters less than precision: rock gardens, roots, logs, steep climbs and descents, ruts, tight trees and slippery ledges. Getting through cleanly requires balance, careful line selection and coordinated use of clutch, throttle and brakes.

Bikes that suit technical riding are light, with smooth low-rev power, soft suspension, low gearing and good steering lock. Trial and hard-enduro bikes are built for exactly this.

Useful tips: stand on the pegs, look several metres ahead, keep momentum with gentle throttle and clutch control, and lower tyre pressures within safe limits for more grip. A tyre mousse or rim locks help prevent pinch flats at low pressures.
