Fesh Fesh

Fesh fesh is extremely fine, powdery sand or dust with a crust on top; it hides holes and makes bikes sink and lose grip.

Fesh fesh is very fine, talc-like dust found in deserts and dry riverbeds. It often has a thin crust, so it looks firm, but the wheel breaks through and sinks. Underneath it can hide rocks and holes, and the bike in front throws up a thick cloud.

  • Stand up, keep the weight back and the throttle steady so the front stays light.
  • Keep a large gap to the rider ahead because of the dust.
  • Check the air filter afterwards – the fine dust gets everywhere.

Similar powdery conditions can occur on dry gravel roads and quarries in summer, but true fesh fesh is mainly a rally-raid hazard.
