Seat bounce

Seat bounce is a jump technique: the rider sits down hard on the take-off to compress the suspension and get extra lift.

A seat bounce is a motocross and supercross technique in which the rider sits down firmly on the seat just as the bike reaches the jump face. The extra weight compresses the rear suspension, and as it rebounds it pushes the bike higher and further.

It is mostly used on smaller bikes that lack the power to clear a jump otherwise, or when there is too little run-up. It needs precise timing: done too early or late, it can kick the rear end up and unsettle the bike in the air.

Learn standard standing jump technique first and practise seat bounces on small jumps with a coach or experienced rider.
