Supersport

Supersport describes mid-size sport bikes, traditionally 600 cc four-cylinders, and the racing class built around them.

Supersport is the category of mid-size sport bikes, traditionally 600 cc four-cylinder machines with high-revving engines, full fairings and track-focused chassis. Over time the class has widened, and racing rules now also admit larger twins and triples with balanced performance.

The World Supersport Championship (WorldSSP) and national series run alongside superbike racing, with machines based on road models. There are also smaller classes such as Supersport 300 for lighter bikes.

As road bikes, supersports are lighter and less powerful than superbikes, but they need high revs to perform and have a demanding riding position. Many riders now choose naked or sport-touring versions with similar engines.
