Commuter (Commuter Bike)

A commuter is someone who rides to work and back; a commuter bike or scooter is built to be economical, practical and easy in traffic.

A commuter is a rider who uses a motorcycle or scooter for the daily trip to work, school or the shops. A commuter bike is designed for that job: typically a 50–400 cc scooter or light motorcycle that is economical, reliable, easy to manoeuvre in traffic and cheap to run.

Useful features for commuting include weather protection, a comfortable upright position, storage space or a top box, good lights and low maintenance needs such as a belt or shaft drive. Electric scooters and motorcycles are increasingly popular commuters thanks to low running costs.

In the Nordic and Baltic climate, commuters benefit from proper waterproof gear, heated grips and good tyres for cold and wet roads. Many riders commute from spring to late autumn and store the bike over winter.
