Quad

A quad is a four-wheeled ATV ridden astride with handlebars; in motocross the word also means a jump with four peaks in a row.

In everyday use a quad is a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that the rider sits astride and steers with handlebars. Quads are used for work on farms and in forests, for leisure trail riding and for racing. Utility models usually have four-wheel drive, a low-range gearbox and racks or a tow hitch, while sport quads are lighter, rear-wheel drive and built for speed.

On a motocross or supercross track, a quad can also mean a section of four jumps placed close together, which riders may clear in different combinations depending on speed and skill.

Before buying a quad, check whether it will be road-registered or used off-road only, as this affects equipment, insurance and where you may ride it.
