Classic and vintage motorcycles

Classic or vintage motorcycles are older bikes valued for their history; the age limit depends on the club, insurer or national historic-vehicle rules.

Classic and vintage motorcycles are older machines kept, restored and ridden for their history, design and character. There is no single definition: clubs, insurers, events and national authorities each set their own age limits and requirements. Vintage often refers to very early machines, while classic covers a wide range of later decades.

Many countries, Estonia included, offer a special historic vehicle status for sufficiently old and largely original vehicles, with conditions on age, originality and use. Check the current rules with the registration authority.

Owning a classic means planning for parts, as availability varies widely, and following older maintenance practices: more frequent oil changes, points or valve adjustments and careful winter storage. Modern retro-styled bikes such as neo-retros look classic but have modern technology.
