Motocross bike

A motocross bike is a light, powerful off-road bike built for closed-circuit racing on dirt tracks with jumps.

A motocross bike (MX bike) is designed for racing on closed dirt tracks with jumps, berms and ruts. It is light, has long-travel suspension, a high-revving engine (typically 125 or 250 cc two-stroke, or 250 or 450 cc four-stroke) and a close-ratio gearbox, usually five speeds.

Unlike an enduro bike, a motocross bike normally has no lights, no kick-stand, a small fuel tank and no road registration. Its suspension and gearing suit short, intense laps rather than long trail rides.

MX bikes need frequent maintenance: air filter cleaning after each ride, regular oil changes and, on four-strokes, valve clearance checks. Children's models from 50 to 85 cc exist for young riders.
