DNF, DNS and DSQ (Race Results)

DNF means did not finish, DNS did not start and DSQ (DQ) disqualified; you see these in motocross, enduro and road race results.

Race result sheets use short codes for riders who have no normal finishing position:

  • DNF – Did Not Finish: the rider started but retired, for example after a crash or breakdown, or did not complete the required laps.
  • DNS – Did Not Start: the rider was entered but did not take the start.
  • DSQ or DQ – Disqualified: the rider was excluded for breaking the rules, such as a technical infringement, cutting the track or ignoring flags.

How these affect championship points depends on the series regulations, so check the rules of the championship you ride in.
