Neutralisation (Neut.)

In rallying, a neutralisation is a controlled zone or stop where race timing is frozen and riders must follow set rules.

A neutralisation, marked “Neut.” in roadbooks and documents, is a part of a rally route where race time does not count. It may be a refuelling stop, a road section through a village, a border crossing or a stop ordered by race direction for safety or logistics.

Riders usually check in and out of a neutralisation at control points, and a speed limit or minimum stop time often applies. Time spent there is removed from the special stage time.

Read the rules for each zone carefully: leaving early, speeding or working on the bike when not allowed can bring time penalties. Neutralisations are also a good moment to drink, eat and check the bike quickly.
