Green Flag

The green flag signals that the race or session has started or that the track is clear after a hazard.

The green flag tells riders that the track is clear. It is shown at the start of a practice or race session, and marshals also wave it after the end of a yellow-flag zone to show that normal racing may resume.

In motocross, races are usually started by a dropping start gate rather than a flag, but the green flag can still be used to start sighting laps or practice. Signal practice varies slightly between series and organisers.

Learning the flag signals is part of every race licence and track-day briefing: missing a flag can mean penalties or, far worse, riding into an accident scene.
