White flag

A white flag's meaning depends on the series: last lap in motocross and many national series, a slow vehicle on track in FIM road racing.

The white flag is a race signal whose meaning depends on the discipline and the rules of the series, so always check the riders' briefing.

  • In motocross, supercross and many national and US series, it shows that the leader has started the last lap.
  • In FIM road racing, a waved white flag can warn of a slow-moving vehicle, such as an ambulance or safety car, on that part of the track.
  • In MotoGP flag-to-flag races, a white flag signals that riders may enter the pits to change bikes, for example when rain begins.

A white flag with a red diagonal cross is used in road racing to warn of light rain on that section. Learn the flags of your series before the first practice session.
