Hare Scramble

A hare scramble is a US-style off-road race of several laps on a marked woods course lasting a set time.

A hare scramble is a form of cross-country off-road racing popular in the USA. Riders complete as many laps as possible of a marked loop through woods, fields and natural terrain within a set time, often one to three hours, and the rider with the most laps in the shortest time wins.

Courses are typically several kilometres long and include tight trails, hills, logs, mud and creek crossings. Unlike motocross there are few built jumps, and fitness and consistency matter as much as speed.

In Europe the closest equivalents are cross-country enduro races and endurance events. The same bikes are used: enduro models or motocross bikes with wider-ratio gearing, a bigger tank and hand guards.
