Bobber

A bobber is a stripped-down custom bike with shortened ('bobbed') fenders, a solo seat and minimal parts.

A bobber is a custom motorcycle built by removing everything not essential. The name comes from 'bobbing', or cutting short, the fenders. Typical features are a short rear fender, a single low seat, no or small front fender, small tank, simple lights and a low, minimalist look.

The style started in the USA in the 1930s–40s, when riders lightened their bikes for racing, and it later influenced choppers. Unlike a chopper, a bobber normally keeps standard steering geometry and a fairly short wheelbase. Several manufacturers now sell factory bobbers, for example the Triumph Bonneville Bobber.

When building one, keep road-legal items such as lights, indicators, mirrors, number plate and fender coverage, and check that a solo seat and changed frame need re-approval in your country.
