Tank bag

A tank bag is luggage mounted on top of the fuel tank. It is ideal for things you need during the day: documents, a phone, snacks, a rain layer or a camera. Many have a clear map or phone pocket on top.

Common mounting systems are magnets (only for steel tanks), straps around the frame and steering head, and quick-release rings fixed to the tank filler cap. Quick-release systems are the most secure and leave the paint untouched.

Choose a size that does not block the handlebars at full lock or press on the ignition switch, and that lets you lie on the tank if you ride a sports bike. Clean the tank before fitting a magnetic bag, as trapped grit scratches the paint.
