GORE-TEX

GORE-TEX is a waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane used in motorcycle jackets, trousers, boots and gloves.

GORE-TEX is a branded membrane made by W. L. Gore & Associates. It has billions of microscopic pores that are too small for water droplets to pass through but large enough for water vapour, so rain stays out while sweat can escape.

In motorcycle gear the membrane is laminated to the outer fabric or fitted as a separate liner in jackets, trousers, boots and gloves. Laminated constructions dry faster and do not get heavy with water, while drop liners are cheaper.

Breathability depends on keeping the outer fabric clean and water-repellent. Wash the garment with a technical detergent, never fabric softener, and renew the outer water-repellent treatment when water stops beading on the surface.
