Kevlar (Aramid Fibre)

Kevlar is DuPont's strong, heat-resistant aramid fibre used to add abrasion resistance to riding jeans, jackets and gloves.

Kevlar is the brand name of an aramid fibre made by DuPont. Aramid fibres are very strong for their weight and resist heat and cutting, which makes them useful in motorcycle clothing where fabric may slide along tarmac in a crash.

Aramid is usually woven into linings or blended with other yarns rather than used alone. Riding jeans, textile jackets, gloves and the seams of leather gear often include it. Blended fabrics such as Keprotec combine aramid with polyamide and other fibres to make a tough outer fabric that is more comfortable to wear.

Aramid is only part of the picture: check whether the whole garment is certified to EN 17092 and look at its class (AAA, AA, A) to understand its overall protection.
