Textile riding gear

Textile riding gear is jackets, trousers and suits made from synthetic fabrics instead of leather, usually with CE armour and weather protection.

Textile riding gear covers jackets, trousers, one-piece suits and gloves made from technical fabrics such as high-denier polyamide, often reinforced in crash zones. Most include removable CE-certified armour at the shoulders, elbows, knees and hips, plus a pocket for a back protector.

Compared with leather, textiles are usually more versatile in changing weather: they can have waterproof membranes, thermal liners and vents, which makes them popular for touring, commuting and adventure riding. Leather still generally offers better abrasion resistance for track riding.

Look for an EN 17092 rating on the label (classes AAA, AA, A and others), check the fit in a riding position and wash the garment according to the instructions to keep the membrane working.
