Pit board

A pit board is a sign shown to a rider from the pit wall or trackside with position, gaps, laps left and instructions.

A pit board is a board held out by a team member at the pit wall or a trackside spot so the rider can read it in passing. It typically shows race position, the gap to the rider ahead and behind, laps remaining, the rider's number and short messages such as “PIT” or “PUSH”.

Even with dashboard messaging in top-level road racing, pit boards remain common in club road racing, endurance and motocross, where they are often the only way to get information to the rider during a race.

Agree on a simple, consistent code before the race. Use big, high-contrast figures, show only the essentials, and hold the board where the rider looks naturally, for example where speed is lower before a corner.
