Stock (factory standard)

A stock motorcycle is exactly as it left the factory, with original (OEM) parts and settings and no aftermarket modifications.

Stock describes a motorcycle, or a part of it, that is in its original factory condition: OEM parts, original settings and no aftermarket modifications. You may see it as 'stock exhaust', 'stock suspension' or 'bone stock' for a bike with no changes at all.

Stock bikes are easier to insure, keep their type approval without question and are often valued for resale, especially on collectable models. Many race series also have 'stock' or 'production' classes with strict limits on modifications.

If you modify your bike, keep the original parts. Returning it to stock helps when selling, for inspection or for warranty claims.
