Plastics (off-road bodywork)

Plastics are the bodywork panels of an off-road bike: mudguards, radiator shrouds, side panels and number plates.

On motocross and enduro bikes, plastics means the set of flexible polypropylene or polyethylene body panels: front and rear mudguards (fenders), radiator shrouds, side panels, the front number plate and often the fork and swingarm guards.

They are designed to bend rather than break in a crash, but they scratch, fade and crack over time. Complete plastic kits in original or custom colours are a popular way to make an older bike look new, often combined with a graphics kit.

When buying, check that the kit matches the exact model and year, as mounting points change between generations. Clean with mild soap, avoid harsh solvents, and use a dedicated plastic restorer or degreaser before fitting stickers so graphics stick well.
