Liaison (Road Section)

A liaison is the untimed road section that links the bivouac, service and timed specials in rally raids and enduro events.

A liaison is a transfer section in rally raids, such as the Dakar, and in enduro events. It links the bivouac or service area to the start of a timed special stage, or one special to the next. Liaisons are not timed for speed, but riders must reach each time control within an allotted time or face penalties.

Liaisons are usually ridden on public roads, so traffic rules and speed limits apply, and the bike must be road legal with working lights and indicators. In rallies they are navigated with the roadbook, just like the specials.

Use the liaison to eat, drink and check the bike, but keep an eye on the clock: arriving early at a time control can be penalised as well as arriving late.
