Motorcycle-specific cut

A motorcycle-specific cut means riding gear is shaped for the riding position, with pre-curved arms and legs and longer back panels.

Riding jackets, trousers and suits with a motorcycle-specific cut are tailored for how you sit on a bike, not for standing. Sleeves are pre-curved and longer, knees are bent, the back is longer and the shoulders allow you to reach the handlebar without the jacket riding up.

The cut matters for safety too: armour only protects if it stays on the elbow, shoulder, hip and knee when you are in the riding position. Sports gear has an aggressive, forward-leaning cut; touring and adventure gear is more upright.

Try gear on while sitting on a bike or in a riding stance. Check that sleeves cover your wrists, the jacket overlaps the trousers and nothing pinches or flaps at speed.
