Yellow flag

A yellow flag signals danger ahead: slow down, be ready to stop and do not overtake until you have passed the incident.

The yellow flag warns of danger on or next to the track ahead, such as a crashed rider, a stopped bike or marshals at work. While yellow flags are shown, overtaking is not allowed from the flag until you have passed the incident, and riders must slow down and be ready to change line or stop.

A single waved yellow means danger; in many rules two waved yellows mean a serious hazard that may block the track. In motocross, jumping is often forbidden in a yellow-flag zone, so riders must roll the jump.

Ignoring a yellow flag, for example by passing or setting a lap time, usually earns penalties such as position drops or cancelled laps. On track days, treat it the same way: lift, look and do not overtake.
