Roadbook

A roadbook is the rally navigation document: numbered boxes with distances, tulip diagrams and notes describing the route step by step.

A roadbook is the main navigation document in rally raid and navigation rallies. It is a long strip, paper or digital, split into numbered boxes. Each box gives the total distance, the distance from the previous box, a tulip diagram showing the junction or feature, a heading (CAP) and notes about hazards. Older rallies called it a roll chart.

Common instructions include following a track, turning at a junction, rejoining a track you left earlier, and sight driving, where no exact track or heading is given and you pick your own line by eye. Danger symbols (one to three exclamation marks) warn of holes, drops or steps.

Reading a roadbook well takes practice: keep the trip meter accurate, read one or two boxes ahead and confirm each landmark before moving on.
