Duck Walking

Duck walking is moving the bike forward while seated by paddling with both feet; useful in deep mud, sand or tight spots, but risky for ankles.

Duck walking means staying seated and pushing or paddling the bike along with your feet, usually with the engine running and the clutch slipping. From the side it looks a little like a duck waddling, hence the name.

It is useful when traction is almost gone – deep mud, soft sand, slippery rocks – or when manoeuvring a heavy bike in a car park or a tight turn. It is a slow-speed technique and should not replace standing on the pegs when riding off-road.

Keep your feet slightly ahead of the footpegs and close to the bike, never let a foot get trapped behind the peg, and wear sturdy boots. Use the clutch gently so the bike doesn't jump forward.
