Dab

A dab is a quick touch of the foot on the ground to keep the bike upright in slow, technical terrain; in trials it costs a penalty point.

A dab is a short push off the ground with one foot to stop the bike from tipping over, usually at low speed on rocks, roots or steep climbs. It is a normal survival move in enduro and trail riding.

In trials, every dab inside a section is counted as a penalty point (a “one”), so riders train balance and clutch control to ride sections clean, feet up.

Keep dabs short and push away from the bike, never plant a straight leg in front of the footpeg – a moving bike can twist the knee badly. Good enduro boots protect the ankle when you do put a foot down.
