Apex

The apex is the point where your line comes closest to the inside of a corner. Choosing it well makes cornering safer and faster.

The apex is the point on your line through a corner where the motorcycle passes closest to the inside edge. It is not necessarily the geometric middle of the bend.

On the road, a late apex is usually the safest choice: you stay wide longer, see further around the bend, turn a bit later and finish the corner with the bike already pointing down the exit. This leaves room for surprises such as gravel or oncoming traffic. On track, riders choose apex points to get on the throttle as early as possible.

Practise looking through the corner towards the apex and then the exit, rather than at the road just in front of the wheel. Your bike tends to go where you look.
