Tabletop (jump)

A tabletop is a motocross jump with a flat top instead of a gap, so short landings are forgiving. It also names a flattened-bike jump trick.

A tabletop is a jump with a take-off ramp, a flat top section and a landing ramp, all joined together. Because there is no open gap, a rider who comes up short lands on the flat deck instead of crashing into a face, which makes tabletops the usual first jump for learners.

The ideal is still to clear the top and touch down on the downslope of the landing; landing flat on the deck sends a hard hit through the suspension and the rider's legs.

The word is also used for a freestyle trick where the rider lays the bike almost flat sideways in the air, also called a pancake. Learn it only after you are fully comfortable with basic jumping and with a whip.
