Double and Triple Jumps

A double jump is two jumps cleared in one flight over the gap; a triple clears three. Typical of motocross and supercross tracks.

A double is two jumps in a row with a gap between them, built so that a rider with enough speed can take off from the first face and land on the down side of the second. A triple adds a third jump and is a signature obstacle of supercross.

Slower riders can roll or jump each one separately, which is how you should learn them. The danger is coming up short and landing on the face of the second jump (casing it), which loads the suspension and rider hard.

  • Walk the track and look at the landing first.
  • Build up speed lap by lap; don't try a double for the first time when tired.
  • Keep the throttle steady on the face – shutting off mid-take-off pitches the bike nose down.
