Grey Import (Grey Market Bike)

A grey import is a motorcycle brought in privately from another market rather than through the official importer.

A grey import (US: grey or gray market bike) is a motorcycle that was never officially sold in a country by the manufacturer's importer, but was later brought in privately or by an independent dealer, for example from Japan or the USA.

Grey imports can offer models, colours or prices that are not available locally. The downsides can include no official warranty, parts that differ from the local version, speedometers in miles and headlights or emissions equipment that do not match local rules.

Before buying, check that the bike can be registered, whether its type approval is valid, and how easy it is to get parts. Within the EU, bikes bought in another member state are normally not considered grey imports.
