Billet (CNC-Machined Parts)

Billet parts are CNC-machined from a solid block of metal, usually aluminium, rather than cast or forged.

Billet is a solid bar or block of metal, most often aluminium alloy. A billet part is cut from it on a CNC machine, rather than being cast in a mould or forged into shape. Common billet parts include levers, footpegs, triple clamps, brake caliper adapters, oil filler caps, chain adjusters and sprockets.

Machining allows precise dimensions, complex shapes and small production runs, and the material has a uniform structure without casting porosity. Billet parts are often anodised in bright colours. They are not automatically stronger than forged parts, because forging aligns the metal's grain along the shape.

When buying, look for a reputable maker and the right alloy for the job. Cheap billet levers may look good but bend or snap more easily than original parts.
