CP (Control Point)

A CP is a staffed checkpoint in a rally or enduro where officials record that you passed; missing one brings a time penalty.

A CP or control point is a staffed checkpoint on the course of a rally, rally-raid or enduro event. Officials record the passage of each rider, usually by stamping a time card or with electronic transponders, to confirm that everybody rode the full route.

Missing a control point normally results in a time penalty set by the supplementary regulations, and missing several can lead to exclusion. In enduro there are also time controls, where you must arrive at a set time and are penalised for being early or late. Many modern rallies add virtual GPS waypoints that work in a similar way.

Read the event's rules and roadbook carefully, note where controls are located and always stop fully at a CP and follow the marshals' instructions.
