Centre Stand

A centre stand is a fold-down stand under the middle of the bike that lifts the rear wheel off the ground for parking and maintenance.

A centre stand is a two-legged stand mounted under the middle of the motorcycle. When folded down and levered, it lifts the bike upright and raises the rear wheel off the ground. It is more stable than a side stand, especially on soft ground or with luggage.

The stand makes maintenance much easier: you can lubricate and adjust the chain, check tyre pressure, change the rear wheel or check the oil level with the bike upright. Touring and adventure bikes often have one as standard or as an accessory, while sports bikes usually don't.

To use it, put your foot firmly on the stand's lever, hold the left handlebar and the grab rail, and push down with your foot while lifting the bike back. It is a technique rather than strength. Keep the pivot greased and check the return springs.
