Case Guards (Engine Cover Protectors)

Case guards are covers fitted over the engine side covers to protect them from cracks in falls, rocks and debris.

Case guards, or engine cover protectors, fit over the clutch, alternator, ignition or water pump covers on the side of the engine. They protect these relatively thin aluminium or magnesium covers from cracking when the bike falls over, slides on asphalt or is hit by rocks and roots.

On enduro and motocross bikes they are usually plastic or aluminium covers bolted over the original side covers. Road bikes often use smaller sliders made of nylon or Delrin fitted with longer bolts.

A cracked cover can leak oil or coolant and quickly end your ride, so case guards are cheap insurance for anyone riding off-road. Make sure they don't block oil checks or cooling airflow, and recheck bolts after the first rides.
