Standard motorcycle (naked)

A standard is a no-frills, all-round road bike with an upright riding position, flat seat and pegs under the rider; sporty versions are called naked bikes.

A standard motorcycle is an all-round road bike focused on function. It has an upright riding position with the handlebar within easy reach, footpegs roughly below the rider, a flat comfortable seat and little or no fairing. Standards suit commuting, weekend rides and learners alike.

A sport standard adds sharper styling, stronger engines and better suspension while keeping the upright position. In Europe these are usually called naked bikes or roadsters, and they are among the most popular motorcycles sold.

Standards are easy to customise with screens, luggage or different bars, so they can adapt as your riding changes. The trade-off is wind exposure at motorway speeds.
