Scrambler

A scrambler is a road bike with off-road styling: high bars, dual-purpose tyres and often a high exhaust; the name comes from early scrambles racing.

A scrambler is a road motorcycle with off-road looks and some light off-road ability. Typical features are a wide handlebar, a flat seat, dual-purpose or block-pattern tyres, longer suspension than a standard bike and often a high-mounted exhaust.

The name comes from scrambles, the early form of off-road racing in Britain from the 1920s onwards. Riders modified road bikes to race across fields and woodland, and scrambles later developed into motocross.

Modern scramblers from several manufacturers are mainly retro-styled road bikes, comfortable on gravel roads but not real enduro machines. If you plan serious off-road riding, look at suspension travel, ground clearance and weight before buying.
