Riding gear

Riding gear is the protective clothing a motorcyclist wears: helmet, jacket, trousers, gloves and boots, ideally with certified armour.

Riding gear covers all the protective clothing and equipment worn on a motorcycle: helmet, jacket, trousers or a one-piece suit, gloves and boots, plus extras such as a back protector, airbag vest, neck brace, goggles or rain gear.

In Europe, motorcycle clothing is tested to EN 17092 (rated AAA, AA, A, B or C), gloves to EN 13594, boots to EN 13634 and impact protectors to EN 1621. Helmets sold in Europe must meet ECE 22.06 (or the older 22.05).

Choose gear for the type of riding and climate: ventilation for summer, waterproof layers for Nordic weather, and lighter, more flexible kit for off-road. Fit matters, as armour only works when it stays in place over the joints.
