Indicators (Turn Signals)

Indicators are flashing lights at the front and rear of a bike that show other road users which way you intend to turn.

Indicators, also called turn signals or blinkers, are amber lights at the front and rear of a motorcycle that flash to show that the rider intends to turn or change lanes. Road-legal bikes must have them, and they must meet type-approval rules for position, visibility and flash rate.

Unlike cars, many motorcycles do not cancel their indicators automatically, so forgetting to switch them off is a common and dangerous mistake. Some modern bikes have self-cancelling systems.

When replacing bulbs with LEDs, the lower current draw can make the flasher blink too fast or not at all; an LED-compatible relay or load resistors fix this. Always choose E-marked indicators for road use.
