TFT display

A TFT display is a colour screen used in modern motorcycle dashboards, clearer and more flexible than older segment LCDs.

TFT stands for thin-film transistor, a type of colour LCD screen in which each pixel is controlled by its own transistor. In motorcycles, TFT dashboards replaced analogue dials and simple segment LCDs on many models from the mid-2010s.

A TFT screen can show many layouts: speed, revs, gear, riding modes, traction control settings, tyre pressures and, with a phone connection, navigation, calls and music. Most adjust brightness automatically and switch between day and night themes.

Practical points: keep the screen out of strong direct sunlight when parked if the manual recommends it, clean it with a soft cloth only, and keep the bike's software updated at the dealer, as updates can fix display and connectivity bugs.
