Carbon Fibre

Carbon fibre is a light, very strong composite of carbon fibres in resin, used for bodywork, wheels, helmets and protective parts.

Carbon fibre (carbon-fibre reinforced plastic) is a composite made of thin carbon fibre fabric set in epoxy resin. It has a very high strength-to-weight ratio and is stiff, so it is used for racing bodywork, fenders, heat shields, exhaust silencer sleeves, frames and wheels on high-end bikes, and for lightweight helmet shells.

Not every "carbon look" part is real carbon: some are plastic with a carbon pattern film. Genuine parts are lighter, but they are expensive and can crack or delaminate after a hard impact instead of bending.

Check carbon parts, especially wheels and helmets, after any crash or drop. A carbon helmet that has taken a hit must be replaced even if it looks fine. Clean carbon with mild soap and protect clear-coated parts from UV with a suitable polish.
