Fairings

Fairings are the body panels on a motorcycle that cut wind resistance and protect the rider from wind and weather; usually ABS plastic or composites.

Fairings are the panels that cover the front and sides of a motorcycle. They improve aerodynamics, deflect wind and rain from the rider and cover the frame and engine. A full fairing encloses most of the bike, as on sport and touring bikes; a half fairing or headlight fairing covers only the front.

Most fairings are injection-moulded ABS plastic; racing and premium parts use fibreglass or carbon fibre. Track days often require fibreglass race fairings because they break more predictably.

Fairings crack easily in a fall. Small cracks can be plastic-welded, and frame sliders or crash protectors reduce damage. When refitting panels, use all the original clips and rubber grommets to stop vibration and rattles.
