Analogue Gauges

Analogue gauges show speed, revs and other readings with a needle on a dial, rather than on a digital display.

Analogue gauges use a moving needle on a round dial to show speed, engine revs, fuel level or temperature. They were standard on motorcycles for decades and are still used on many retro and classic-style models.

Many riders find a needle quicker to read at a glance, because the position tells you the value without reading numbers. Digital and TFT displays can show far more information, such as riding modes, tyre pressure and navigation, and are now common even on smaller bikes.

Mechanical speedometers and rev counters are driven by a cable that can wear, dry out or break, making the needle flicker or stop. Lubricate or replace the cable; on electronic analogue gauges, check the sensor and connectors instead.
