Step-up jump

A step-up is a jump where the landing is higher than the take-off; in a rally roadbook it marks a sudden ledge up in the terrain.

A step-up is a jump where the landing is higher than the take-off. The bike reaches the landing at the top of its arc, so the jump feels shorter and softer, but you need enough speed and drive: coming up short means the front or rear wheel hits the face of the landing.

Approach with steady throttle, keep driving through the take-off, and stay neutral or slightly forward on the bike so it does not loop out. Step-ups are often easier for beginners than step-downs, but commitment matters.

In a rally roadbook, a step-up indicates a sudden ledge or rise in the terrain that needs to be taken at a suitable speed.
