SIPDE

SIPDE stands for Scan, Identify, Predict, Decide, Execute, a five-step hazard-awareness method taught in US rider training.

SIPDE is a hazard-awareness strategy used in US rider courses: Scan the road and surroundings, Identify possible hazards, Predict what they might do, Decide on a response and Execute it. Newer courses often teach a simplified version called SEE (Search, Evaluate, Execute).

The idea is to always think a few seconds ahead: notice the car waiting to turn, predict that the driver may not see you, decide to slow and change lane position, and act before it becomes an emergency.

Similar thinking is taught in European rider training under different names. Whatever the label, regular practice of scanning far ahead and planning escape routes greatly reduces risk.
