Roadbook box: partial distance and notes column

Each roadbook box has total and partial distance, a tulip diagram and a notes column with symbols, CAP headings and dangers.

A rally roadbook is split into numbered boxes, each describing one navigation point. A typical box has three columns:

  • Distance column: the large number is the total distance from the start of the stage; the small partial distance shows how far it is from the previous box.
  • Tulip column: a diagram of the junction or feature, showing where you come from and which way to go.
  • Notes column: symbols for terrain and hazards, the compass heading (CAP), danger marks (one to three exclamation points) and short text.

Use partial distances to correct your trip meter after a wrong turn and to anticipate the next instruction. Highlighting dangers and key headings with colour before the stage is a common habit among rally and navigation enduro riders.
