Gauges (Instrument Cluster)

Gauges are the instruments that show the rider speed, engine rpm, distance, fuel level, temperature and warning lights.

Gauges, or the instrument cluster, are the displays in front of the rider. Typical information includes road speed (speedometer), engine speed (tachometer), total and trip distance (odometer), fuel level, coolant temperature, gear position and warning lights.

Older bikes use analogue needles driven by cables or sensors, while modern machines use LCD or full-colour TFT screens that can also show riding modes, tyre pressures and phone connectivity. Off-road bikes often have only a small digital unit or none at all.

If a speedometer reads wrong after changing tyre size or sprockets, it may need recalibrating. Always take warning lights seriously and check the manual for their meaning.
