Decreasing Radius Corner

A decreasing radius corner tightens as you go through it; enter slower and with a later apex so you have room to turn more.

In a decreasing radius corner the bend gets sharper the further you go. Motorway slip roads and many country roads have them. Riders who enter at the speed the entry suggests often run wide, because they need more lean or a slower speed halfway through.

  • Enter slower than you think and look as far through the corner as possible.
  • Stay wide on the entry and use a late apex so you can see the exit before committing.
  • If it tightens, keep looking where you want to go and add lean smoothly – most bikes can lean further than the rider believes. Avoid grabbing the front brake hard at full lean.
