Camber

Camber is the inward or outward tilt of a wheel seen from the front, and also the sideways slope of a road surface that drains water.

Camber has two meanings for riders. On a vehicle, it is the tilt of a wheel when viewed from the front: negative camber leans the top of the wheel inwards, positive camber outwards. On a solo motorcycle the wheels lean with the whole bike, so camber settings matter mainly on ATVs, quads and sidecar outfits, where wrong camber causes uneven tyre wear and pulling.

The second meaning is road camber: the sideways slope built into a road so that rain runs off. A bend that slopes towards the inside (positive camber) helps grip, while an off-camber bend slopes outwards and reduces the grip and ground clearance available.

Watch out for off-camber corners, especially when they are wet or gravelly, and leave a bigger safety margin there.
