Details

The rectifier / regulator changes the AC voltage generated in the alternator to the 12V DC voltage used in the vehicle electrical system and keeps the voltage within a certain tolerance range. This charges the battery and ensures, for example, that incandescent lamps do not burn out.

Since this component is exposed to very high temperatures, it often breaks down.

If the rectifier / regulator is defective, the battery is constantly empty, with certain ignition systems the ignition system no longer works, bulbs burn out very often or the headlights flicker.
